MARGAO
The SGPDA wholesale fish market was inundated with flood water in the wee hours of the day, forcing the fish traders to shift their business outside alongside the main road.
The development brought the traders and the SGPDA officials collecting the sopo fees face to face. While the PDA officials tried to collect the sopo fees from the fish traders conducting business outside the PDA property, the traders refused to pay the fees on the ground the property outside the market does not belong to the SGPDA.
That’s not all. The traders maintained that there was hardly any business in the wholesale fish market on Saturday in view of the flood like situation. They also demanded that the PDA should take steps to ensure proper arrangements for them to do the business.
When the fish trucks entered the market, the market was inundated with water. Given that one portion of the market is shut down to facilitate construction of a new market, the traders could not do the business in water since the water level in the market was still high in the wee hours of Saturday.
