MAPUSA
Former urban development minister and Mapusa MLA Francisco D’Souza said there was no point in blaming the BJP, as the Congress MLAs have willingly resigned and decided to join the saffron party.
“If they are willing to quit their parent party and join the BJP, who can stop them? Why blame BJP for it?” D’Souza said.
The Mapusa MLA was responding to Tuesday’s developments after two Congress legislators “ Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte “ resigned as MLAs from Shiroda and Mandrem constituency, respectively and joined the BJP.
D’Souza said nobody can legally stop an MLA from resigning, but the morality of the decision could be questioned.
“There are two parts to it. Legally, it is ok. Morally, it is a little doubtful. But, where is the morality in politics. It depends from person to person,” he told The Goan.
The Mapusa MLA said that the resignation of the two wasn’t surprising as rumours of them joining BJP were circulating for the last six months.
“I am not surprised at all. Their plans of joining the BJP were an open secret. Rumours were there for quite some time,” he said.
D’Souza’s comment comes as a surprise, as just two days ago he had in an interview to Prudent TV said that the BJP should not have formed the government after the 2017 assembly polls.
Earlier too, he had slammed the party after he was stripped of his ministerial post last month.
