Wild bushes, traffic discussed at Socorro meet

The Socorro gram sabha on Sunday deliberated on various issues concerning the village.
Vasudev Joshi brought to the notice of the panchayat that lot of bushes have grown up in an open space in the village which has been reserved for a children’s park. “Residents dump garbage and urinate and foul smell emanates from the place. The panchayat should cut the bushes and clean the area,” Joshi said.
Sarpanch Dittosa Lobo said the open space has still not been handed over to the panchayat and hence the panchayat could not develop the garden. “The residents residing around the open space should take initiative and arrange to obtain NOC from the land owner and submit it to the panchayat for development. In the meantime, the panchayat will try to cut the bushes and clean the area,” assured Lobo.
The villagers said several vehicles are parked alongside the road near Hyundai showroom at Porvorim and there is traffic chaos and accident takes place. They demanded a speed breaker and zebra crossing at the place.
Steven D’Sa said the condition of the Kadamba road has become pathetic and it should be hotmixed before the monsoon.
Sarpanch Lobo informed the villagers that developmental works worth Rs 46.31 lakh have been tendered by the panchayat, which includes repairing of existing gutters, internal roads, construction of footpaths and beautification of the chapel at Ambirna-Socorro.
She said house tax arrears have amounted to Rs 65 lakh and requested the villagers to pay house tax immediately. “APL ration cards have been received and they will be distributed to the residents from May 2,” informed Lobo.
Earlier, Lobo welcomed the gathering, while panchayat secretary Chetan Shirodkar read the minutes of the previous gram sabha.
