Fisheries Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues assured to convey to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant the sentiments and concerns of the fishing community on the ill-effects of the proposed marina project along the Dona Paula to Agassaim belt.
“If the fishermen feel that the marina would have an impact on fishing, marine life and their traditional activities, then I will convey the same to the CM and convince him that it would have an impact on fishing activities,” said Rodrigues, while speaking at a meeting organised at Siridao on Friday to protest illegal fishing activities of fishermen from Vasco.
A large number of affected fishermen from Dona Paula, Odxel, Cacra, Nauxim, Siridao, Bambolim, Goa Velha and Agassaim had attended the meeting to highlight the issues faced by them due to the illegal fishing activities, when one speaker raised the issue about the Nauxim marina project.
“I am of the opinion that no Goan should live in fear and anxiety in his own land. I will support the fishermen in their fight against the marina,” he added.
Speaking on the issue, St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira said he has been fighting against the issue since 2009 and would continue to fight against the
project.
“Nobody wants the marina to come up here. I have continuously opposed the same and request the fisheries minister as well as the revenue minister to support us on the issue,” Silveira urged.
