Vasco BJP MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar on Monday said an amicable solution would be worked out on the Muslim Kabrastan issue at Maimollem, where the South Western Railway is presently carrying out double-tracking work.
Salkar was speaking to reporters after a joint inspection at the Muslim Kabrastan along with members of the minority community and Railway authorities.
"We had requested the Railways to de-silt the main exit outlet to 1 meter depth to ensure proper flow of water in Maimollem to prevent flooding and they had agreed to it.”
“However, I received a call from my Muslim friends and supporters that the Railways, while carrying out expansion works at Maimollem, had damaged some graves of the Muslim Kabrastan and I rushed to the site and stopped their work as of now," said Salkar.
"We summoned railway officials to the site for a joint inspection. We have decided to invite Muslim leaders and Railway authorities on one platform for a proper demarcation.”
“We will then see how much the Railways can adjust to save the Muslim Kabrastan and resolve the issue amicably. The Muslim leaders and the Railways have both agreed to this and I request everyone not to politicise the issue unnecessarily when the issue can be resolved with discussions," said Salkar.
