Will never allow Aldona jetty for coal transportation: Ticlo

MAPUSA

Chairman of Goa State Industrial Development Corporation and Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo on Tuesday sought to assure the people of Goa that he would never allow a jetty for transportation of coal either in Aldona or any part of the State.

“I would like to assure the people of my constituency and the whole of Goa that I will never permit any coal jetty to be constructed in my constituency and for that matter in the whole of State,” Ticlo said.

The Aldona MLA was addressing a gathering after unfurling the national tricolour on the occasion of the Republic Day function at the government complex in Mapusa.

Speaking further, Ticlo said the Captain of Ports had recently mooted a project for development of coastal passenger jetties in the State, including in Aldona, under the Coastal Berth Scheme but locals have been misguided in believing that the said proposal to set up the jetty was for coal transportation.

“People of Aldona should not fall prey to such false propaganda indulged by those who are trying to salvage themselves from being written off from the political arena,” he said.

“I have strived and fought the powerful builder lobby and maintained the flora and fauna of my constituency and will never allow coal jetty in the village,” he added.

It may be recalled, Goa Forward Working President Kiran Kandolkar had recently said the Aldona MLA along with the CM Pramod Sawant had hatched a plan to transport and stack coal at Aldona jetty.

Earlier, the NGO, Goencho Avaaz had also alleged that the move to develop the Aldona jetty was part of the government plan to use it for coal transportation.
