PORVORIM
Accusing IT Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte of working against the interests of Goa by his destructive policies and land-grabbing tactics, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said the Congress Party would not associate itself with Khaunte anytime in future.
“Congress party is opposed to the proposed IT park in Chimbel and any type of project which does not have popular support should not be forced on the public. The IT Park can be started in any other place if it is for public benefit,” said Chodankar.
He was speaking at the first meeting of Porvorim Block Congress convened by ad hoc convenor Advocate Shankar Phadte at Alto-Porvorim. Former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes, North Goa District President Vijay Bhike and GPCC Spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar were present at the meeting.
The members resolved at the meeting that Khaunte, an Independent MLA, should not be given entry into the Congress party under any circumstance as he had won the last assembly election on the Congress support and later betrayed the voters and the Congress party.
Stating that Porvorim constituency had remained neglected for the last 10 years on account of various reasons, Chodankar said the party has decided to work aggressively in Porvorim constituency.
“The Congress has a base of about 5,000 loyal voters in Porvorim. A new block committee will be given the required support to act in full swing in this constituency and attend to the needs of people and resolve their grievances,” said Chodankar.
Former MLA Agnelo Fernandes and North Goa District President Vijay Bhike appealed to the members to work united to strengthen the party.
Phadte welcomed the gathering, while social worker Wilber Ticlo later proposed the vote of thanks. Amarnath Panjikar compered the
programme.
