Will notify action plan on noise pollution by May 3, Govt tells HC

PANAJI

The Bombay High Court at Goa took on record a statement by the State government on Tuesday, confirming that they will notify an amended version of the ‘noise pollution action plan’ by May 3 and present it before the Court on May 6.

This statement comes as the High Court hears a contempt petition filed against the State government and its agencies for failing to crack down on noise pollution along the coastal belt, especially in Anjuna, which hosts regular late-night music parties while authorities turn a blind eye.

The petition, filed by Sagardeep Sirsaikar, Arnold D’Sa, and others, alleges contempt by the authorities for failing to crack down on open-air loud music parties despite specific directions to stop such parties and confiscate the equipment.

Last year, the state authorities formulated an action plan to tackle noise pollution at Sunburn and submitted it to the court.

In December last year, the Bombay High Court at Goa instructed the State government to submit a detailed action plan to curb sound pollution likely to arise from the Sunburn EDM music festival scheduled at Vagator.

Meanwhile, the High Court directed licensing authorities to provide a list of issued licences and instructed the GSPCB to “make a statement on 6th May 2024 regarding whether these licensed premises have noise monitoring systems installed and whether such premises are functional”.
