St Andre MLA and NGPDA Chairman Francis Silveira on Wednesday promised to oppose the proposed marina at Nauxim village, if locals were against the project.

Silveira was speaking to reporters in the presence of many villagers along the sidelines of the “Gandhi Sankalp Padayatra” organised on the occasion of 150th Jayanti of Mahatma Gandhi, where a large number of people led by the MLA walked from Pilar to Dongri to spread the message of cleanliness.

“I have opposed the proposed marina since the start. If villagers of Nauxim do not want the project, then I will oppose it and will not allow it. This marina was also discussed in the assembly by me and I have been clear on the floor of the House that if the villagers don’t want it, it will be opposed,” said Silveira.

“I will be with the villagers of Bambolim in this issue and stand with them in their discussion. No matter what anyone says, only projects desired by villagers will come up in St Andre constituency.”

Former MLA and my friend late Vishnu Wagh and I were together on these issues and we were united in opposing the project by having series of meetings in all villages of this constituency.”

“I will not allow this project and stand with my villagers. There is no scope of any pressure on me by the BJP since the BJP government is working for the people. This project cannot come up if it is opposed by villagers,” assured the MLA.

Silveira also appealed to workers of Congress and BJP to come together and work in unity in the interest and development of St Andre constituency.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon people to unite in this padyatra across the country to spread the message of cleanliness. We along with locals and members of all the seven panchayats of St Andre constituency are here today and we have to also unite and extend support to each other.”

“There should be no differences in political parties now. Even Congress workers who were my supporters have now come to the BJP and I request that we must be united for development without any difference any more,” said Silveira.
