Will settle all forest rights claims this tenure: CM

Also vows to resolve long-pending mundkarial cases at earliest

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said all the pending 10,000 forest rights claims will be taken to the logical conclusion and the long-pending mundkarial cases will also be resolved at the earliest.

Sawant was speaking at an event held under the auspices of Gomantak Bahujan Mahasangh, an umbrella organisation for the welfare of SCs, STs and OBCs to felicitate newly-elected legislators from these communities.

Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude and Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik also attended the event.

Sawant added that in his previous tenure, he along with Gaude, took the initiative and resolved 500 of the forest rights claims and asserted that in the next two years, at least half the backlog will be cleared.

"By the end of the tenure of this government, all the 10,000 cases will be taken to the logical conclusion," Sawant said.

On the long-pending mundkarial cases, Sawant said his govt will also emphasize resolving the cases by expediting the quasi-judicial proceedings in the revenue courts.

Earlier this week, Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate had also set a 12-month deadline for resolving mundkarial cases.

On assuming charge as a minister, Monserrate had said that adjournment of proceedings, which was the bane of the quasi-judicial process under the Mundkar Act will be corrected.
