MAPUSA: With the government deciding to issue permission to both the electronic dance musical events, the organizers of Sunburn have started erecting props at the sprawling grazing land in Vagator.
But the organizers are not taking any chances and have last week met Calangute Deputy Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, requesting for permission to hold the event in Baga.
The Sunburn organizers are aware and apprehensive about the locals and social activists, who have filed cases in government departments and in courts against the commercial activity on the Vagator grazing ground.
The Calangute deputy sarpanch has decided to put the ball in the people’s court and called for a special gram sabha on December 13 to decide on the issue.
As reported in The Goan, the three key politicians from Calangute “ Michael Lobo, Joseph Sequeira and Agnel Fernandes “ have already given a green signal to host the event in the constituency.
It is a rare incident where all three rival politicians are unanimous, but what is significant is that all three are stakeholders in the hotel industry and own popular hotels and restaurants along the Baga-Calangute-Candolim coastline.
Sources disclosed that decision to grant an NOC to the musical festival is a forgone conclusion and the gram sabha in Calangute is likely to be persuaded to approve the event in Baga.
