The National Association for the Blind (NAB) President Rozendo Mendonca on Saturday said that the aim of the organisation is to make its students totally independent.
Mendonca made the statement while speaking at a function to organised to mark the World White Cane Day at Santa Cruz High School.
Speaking at the function, Mendonca said that though the students are able to do majority of things that normal students do, they still have to rely on writers to answer their exams.
“Our students can do anything today and with the digital world, the aim is to achieve a higher level. Right now, writers are provided to our students at exams because they cannot see. In future, we want to make them answer their papers on their own with the help of laptops,” Mendonca informed.
“We want to make sure that the visually impaired are able to lead a totally independent life just like any other,” he added.
St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, who was the chief guest for the function, said he would extend support to NAB to ensure that his government provides the facilities required for the visually impaired.
