Insisting that he was always available to the people, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas on Thursday said he was willing to solve issues faced related to double-tracking if people approached him with real issues.

Refuting recent allegations made by Cortalim Congress leader Olencio Simoes, Vas said he had no powers to direct the Dy Collector or the police and accused Simoes of trying to revive his political career by using double tracking as the platform to instigate and misguide the villagers.

“This double tracking issue has been going on for many years since the tenure of the last few MLAs and people have been facing issues of coal pollution. I am against double tracking as well and I can only request the people to be united to find a solution to issues related to the double tracking,” said Vas.

“I may be the MLA but I don’t have the powers to instruct Dy Collector and Verna PI to stand with the railways. There must not be political interference because I have seen Simoes instigating and misguiding people by bringing them on the roads to revive his political career.”

“I had even convened a meeting of affected villagers but Simoes misguided them and they are scared to speak about their real issues.”

“I am always available in my office but no one has come forward to discuss the real issues with me and I can officially sort out the issues. However, I am in touch with the people and I appeal to people not to politicise the issue,” said Vas.
