The residents claimed that calls to the electricity sub-division at Tuem went unattended by the staff, as Morjim, Mandrem, Agarwaddo, Tuem, Parsem and other villages were plunged into darkness after power supply was disrupted at about 1 am.
The power supply was finally restored after nearly six hours.
When contacted, Pernem electricity division officer Subhash Parsekar said the electrical alignment along the NH17 was disrupted following gusty winds on Sunday night.
“The problem was resolved within two hours and power supply was restored in Arambol, Keri, Korgao, Malpem
and Pernem.”
“There was another technical problem at Tuem, due to which there was no power supply in other villages till the wee hours of Monday,” he added.
“All the staff and officers were on duty to restore the power supply,” he added.
When contacted, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte said that he will discuss the issue with the Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar and hopes to solve the problem as soon as possible.
“The underground power cables will be laid and a
separate power station will
be set up in the future. If the situation still remains the same, then I will raise this issue in the assembly,” Sopte added.
