PANAJI
Speaking to The Goan from New Delhi, Parsekar said that he has sought a role in showing the delegates the beauty and culture of the State.
“We are planning things in such a way that it is a memorable event for all the delegates. When speaking to Sushmaji, I have sought that the state be allowed to host a dinner on behalf of the State. Besides this, the state would like to take the spouses of the leaders on a sightseeing tour to depict Goa properly. Also during the cultural programme which is to be hosted for them, some of Goa’s culture needs to be depicted,” Parsekar said.
Parsekar met with Sushma Swaraj along with Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. In a separate meeting with Union Minister of Home Rajnath Singh, Parsekar said he briefed the Minister over the needs of the State in view of the conclave.
“I apprised him of the situation in Goa and the work we have done to host the summit and how we have planned it. From the security point of view, we are going to need bullet proof jackets, (mobile) jammers, as well as reinforcements from the centre and the Intelligence Bureau,” Parsekar said.
With regard to the airport, Parsekar said that through Manohar Parrikar he has sought that parking facilities at the INS Hansa naval base be made available for the private planes of the leaders.
“It would not seem good to ask them to park their planes in Bangalore or elsewhere. It would be nice if the entire facilities of the naval base be made available exclusively for the BRICS summit,” Parsekar said.
