With Covid crossing 2,000-figure mark, home isolation kits and medicines come under strain at Margao health centre

MARGAO
With Covid spreading like wild fire in Margao with the city crossing the 2000-figure mark on Friday, home isolation kits and medicines have come under strain at the Margao Urban Health centre.

City medical stores and pharmacies have also recorded a sudden increase in the demand for medicines, especially for the medicines prescribed for asymptomatic patients under home isolation.

The Goan understands that with Covid cases rising by the day in the commercial capital, home isolation kits and medicines have come in for great demand. In fact, home isolation kit stock got over at the Margao UHC on Thursday, prompting the health centre to procure 100 additional kits from the Directorate of Health Services on Friday.

Officials in the know, however, said that 50 per cent of the home isolation kits have exhausted on Friday, with just 50 kits available with the centre. “We are hard pressed to provide the home isolation kits to each and every person, who have tested positive for coronavirus. The demand for the home isolation kits is much more than the supply. We have brought the situation to the notice of the higher health officials,” informed an official, while saying that the situation will improve if the Directorate dispatches adequate stock of kits and medicines to the centre.

A couple of city medical stores told The Goan that there’s been sudden demand for medications such as paracetamol, Doxycycline, Ivermectin, besides Vitamin C, D and Zinc, etc.

Sources attributed the sudden demand for these medication after a standard operating procedure for home isolation started doing the rounds on the social media in the last two days.

A pharmacist told The Goan that while some of the medications ran out of stock, they expect to receive fresh stock from the distributors on Saturday.
