Launching or inaugurating projects in Mormugao taluka had almost become a daily affair in recent times, but all these activities have suddenly come to a grinding halt with the Election Commission implementing the Code of Conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Till Saturday, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) had taken up the launch of various projects in different wards, while minister and legislators in Mormugao Taluka had been equally active in inaugurating several project in their constituencies.
Sources told The Goan that a lot of development projects were yet to be inaugurated, but the implementation of the election Code of Conduct has left the inauguration of these works pending till May-end.
While some MMC councillors had earlier inaugurated multiple projects on a single day just before the Code of Conduct, other councillors hoping to get their projects launched in the next few days have been left disappointed, as the Code of Conduct has prevented them from launching and executing works in their wards.
With the election Code of Conduct in place, MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has already directed the municipal inspector and staff to inspect for any political banners displayed at various locations of the jurisdiction.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission of India had announced that Lok Sabha elections in Goa would be conducted on April 23, while by-polls for three assembly constituencies would also be conducted on the same day, with counting to take place on May 23.
