Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election due in the first half of 2019, the Election Commission has announced a summary revision of electoral rolls of the two Parliamentary seats and all 40 assembly constituencies. The process will enable those attaining the age of 18 with January 1 as the qualifying date to enroll themselves as electors.
The EC is set to publish the integrated draft electoral roll on Saturday. Claims and objections to this draft can be filed in the two months of September & October which will be scrutinized and disposed by November 30.
The rolls will accordingly be updated and a Supplement published by January 3, 2019.
The office of Goa’s Chief Electoral Officer has urged political parties and people in general to scrutinise the draft rolls and take steps to either correct or include names of those eligible. The deadline for this exercise is October 31.
Meanwhile, special campaigns for the summary revision with booth level agents of political parties will also be held on September 8 and October 7. The electoral rolls will be made available for scrutiny from Saturday at all polling stations where the last parliamentary and assembly elections were held.
The rolls will also be available at the offices of the deputy collectors who also double up as Electoral Registration Officers in all the 12 taluka headquarters. These will also be
kept for public scrutiny at the offices of the mamlatdars and joint-mamlatdars.
Designated officers will also be appointed and posted at all the polling stations to assist members of the public in filing claims and objections for inclusion of names or correction of particulars of names already in the draft electoral rolls. The claims and objections filed in the prescribed forms 6, 6A, 7, 8 and 8A will be accepted from Saturday and up to October 31 by the Deputy Collectors, mamlatdars and Booth Level Officers.
