The road access to the land acquired at Sonsodo for the proposed kabrastan for the Muslim community had come as a stumbling block for the burial grounds to see light of the day till date.
Despite the High Court’s directions issued on October 12, 2022 to the government to take up and complete the work on the kabrastan at the acquired land on a war footing, work could not kick-start at the site for want of a road access.
In fact, Rahul Deshpande & Associates, the consultant appointed by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) to execute work on the kabrastan had pointed out a year ago that the DPR will be worked out only when the issue over the road access is resolved.
In fact, in a bid to tide over the issue of road access to the land acquired for the proposed kabrastan, the consultant was believed to have recommended construction of a ramp/bridge connecting the main road to the acquired land at an estimated cost of Rs 8-10 crore.
Alternatively, the consultant had recommended a lift (elevator) and a staircase along with a generator, to connect the main road to the acquired land at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
