The Goa Suraksha Manch on Thursday announced that former RSS chief of Goa Subhash Velingkar, who has decided to enter electoral politics, will lead the party in the upcoming by-polls in Shiroda and Mandrem.

The party having rebel cadres from the BJP is aspiring to win the by-polls, GSM president Atmaram Gaonkar, said at a press conference on Thursday.

Velingkar will officially take the reigns of the party at a party workers meet on Sunday at Porvorim.

“The party’s future course of action will be decided in the meet. We have also come from BJP to GSM. We are confident that other BJP voters will swing towards our party in the upcoming election,” Goankar said adding that the party will contest both the Shiroda and Mandrem by-polls under Velingkar’s leadership.

He said the experience of Velingkar will help the party and expressed confidence that it will win the election. Gaonkar admitted that the alignment with the MGP before the Assembly elections in 2017 was a big mistake committed by GSM and added that the mistake will not be repeated now.

GSM is also planning to have a big meeting in Panaji next month, the details of which will be discussed on Sunday, he said.

Gaonkar said, the BJP will not get any sympathy from voters on the issue of health of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

If the CM had given up his portfolios and created new leadership in the BJP then he would have got some sympathy from the people, he added.  BJP has compromised on casino and other issues the people will not forgive them, said Vinayak Chari the party functionary.
