Nirmala Sakhalkar is set to be elected unopposed in Ward 8, while a total of 35 nominations were filed for elections to nine other wards at Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC).
There will be a straight fight in 2 wards, while seven other wards will witness contests between three or more candidates.
Nirmala Sakhalkar is expected to be elected unopposed from Ward 8, which is reserved for OBC women, but she will officially be declared elected unopposed after scrutiny of nomination forms.
The candidates who have filed nominations are Anil Katkar, Devendra Gaonkar and Anisha Katkar (Ward 1), Ramdas Shirodkar, Ramdas Desai, Ramesh Zarmekar and Anandi Shirodkar (Ward 2), Eknath Boryekar, Umesh Gulelkar (Ward 3), Prasanna Gawas, Milan Gawas, Reshma Gawas, Suvidha Gawas, Sudha Pundalik Gawas and Rajshri Gawas (Ward 4), Abdul Beg, Sheikh Idris and Parveen Sheikh (Ward 5), Sharafat Khan, Ismail Khan, Parveen Khan and Gulzar Khan (Ward 6), Sarfaraz Syed, Deepa Mandrekar and Samrin Syed (Ward 7), Nirmala Sakhalkar (Ward 8 - Unopposed), Dharmendra Salunkhe, Sheikh Ali, Shiraz Khan and Nasiruddin Syed Burhanuddin (Ward 9), Shweta Kanekar and Sehzin Sheikh (Ward 10).
CMC polls: 44 file 59 nominations
CANACONA: With 19 nominations filed on Thursday, a total of 44 candidates have filed 59 nominations for elections in the 12 wards of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC).
According to Returning Officer Udhay Prabhu Dessai, ex-CMC chairperson Hemant Gracias filed his nomination for the commercial hub and prestigious Chaudi Ward 2, which will also witness the challenge of another ex-chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar who submitted his second set of nominations for the ward.
While ex-chairperson Simon Rebello also submitted his second set of nominations for Palolem-Ourem(Ward 10), another ex-chairperson Divakar Pagi filed two sets of nominations for Ward 12 (Palolem).
Incidentally, of the 19 nominations received on Thursday, the last day to file nominations, as many as eight candidates who had earlier filed their nominations went on to submit their second set of nominations. Only one candidate filed two sets of nominations on Thursday.
The 59 nominations filed by 44 candidates will be taken up for scrutiny on Saturday.
49 candidates file papers for Pernem polls
PERNEM: Eleven candidates filed their nominations on Thursday, taking the number of candidates to 49 contesting elections at the Pernem Municipal Council (PMC).
Those who filed their nominations Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar on the last day were former councillor Deepak Mandrekar and Prakash Kambli (Ward 1), Ritu Apule, Prarthana Gadekar and Sejal Kashalkar (Ward 3), Rama Nagvekar (Ward 4), Suchita Sawal Desai (Ward 6), Suresh Mashelkar and Vaman Kavthankar (Ward 7), Pratap Pednekar and Tukaram Tamboskar (Ward 9).
