Woman cyclist welcomed, feted at Mapusa
MAPUSA: Dr Sarojini Monteiro, who covered a distance of 2,000 kms riding a bicycle across the country, was accorded a warm welcome at St Xavier College by Principal Dr Walter de Sa and in her honour, a felicitation function was organised in the presence of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo.
Dr Monteiro is on a charity bicycle ride as part of Cycling India for Women, Health and the Environment projects, whose main aim is to empower and motivate Indian women to cycle to prevent diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Lobo stressed on the importance of maintaining health through physical exercises and appreciated the mission undertaken by Dr Monteiro and wished her every success. Delilah also spoke on the occasion. Principal Fr de Sa applauded her mission of cycling to create awareness.
