One of the six victims who were injured in the fire incident reported in a residence near Gandhi market on Tuesday night succumbed to burn injuries at GMC, Bambolim.
Margao police said the deceased, one Bhima Jamuni (42) who was shifted to GMC, Bambolim late on Tuesday night, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that the fire incident had occurred at 10 pm on Tuesday night at a house near Gandhi market when the inmates of the house had lit the stove, only to be burnt by a huge flame.
As the fire engulfed the residence, the blaze had partially charred a cradle carrying the infant who had also sustained injuries. Later, the infant, along with two others, was shifted to GMC, Bambolim. Three others are recuperating at Hospicio Hospital, Margao.
Of the three victims shifted to GMC, one of them succumbed to burn injuries, informed police.
Those among the injured who are recovering include Satyavva Jamuni (50), Surekha Jamuni (20), one-and-half year old Vrushabh, Babajan Jiyazi (48), Shankar Bheema (25) and Mehboob Ali.
Margao police informed that they have registered an offence under Section 174 of IPC.
Meanwhile, at Gandhi market on Wednesday, a section of angry residents created an uproar over the lack of inaction in deputing a traffic police at Gandhi market. The angry residents, led by one Riyaz Shaikh, set an eight-day deadline commencing from Wednesday to the administration for complying with their demand of posting a traffic cop at Gandhi market. They have warned the authorities that failure to concede to this demand within the set time frame will force them to disallow any vehicles from entering Gandhi market.
Shaik told mediapersons that the residents have forwarded many representations in this regard to the concerned authorities in the past, but to no avail. He added that despite this area being declared as a no-parking zone, vehicles are parked here with gay abandon.
