Woman fights off abduction, rape attempt at Canacona

Victim bites hands of assailant, flees and gets help from passing motorist at Agonda

In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman bravely fought off a 16-year-old boy by biting his hands after he abducted her from the KTC bus stand and allegedly tried to rape her at an isolated spot along way to Agonda on Thursday evening. The accused was later arrested in this connection.
According to reports, the incident took place as the woman, who hails from Khola, was at the KTC bus stand while returning home from work.

At about 7 pm, the teenager met the girl and asked her to accompany him, after offering a drop to her house on his motorbike.
The woman refused to accompany him as she did not know him, but recalled that he along with his father had visited the showroom where she works earlier in the day, to enquire about a product.
The teenager then grabbed hold of her shoulder and began to forcibly drag her out of the bus stand
When the woman shouted for help, the teenager threatened to kill her and also began to threaten a few persons who attempted to intervene in the matter.
When the woman received no help, he forced her to sit on a two-wheeler and began to ride towards the Agonda road.
On reaching Keri, he took his bike into a muddy path, which leads to a late-night party spot.
The accused then stopped the bike after travelling about 200 metres along the isolated road and attempted to rape the woman.
She tried to resist his attempts and in a desperate bid to escape from his clutches, she bit both his hands and broke free.
The panic-stricken woman then ran towards the main Agonda road and was lucky to spot a passing motorist, who hails from Agonda, and alerted him about the traumatic incident.
Noticing the teenager following them, the woman requested the motorist to speed away and they proceeded to a nearby bar along the Agonda road.
The girl quickly dialled her brother and later, people at the bar reported the matter to Canacona police.
The accused reached the bar and on noticing a group of men in support of the woman, he beat a hasty retreat and fled from the site.
The Canacona police swung into action and arrested the accused from his residence in Canacona.
He was later referred to the Canacona CHC for a medical check up and was also treated for bites on both hands, which had been inflicted by the victim.
Sources told The Goan that the woman was also called to the Canacona CHC to verify the bite marks on the culprit's hands. She is also reported to have given her statement to a court in Canacona.
When contacted, Canacona police informed that the accused was later shifted to Apna Ghar in Merces, where he would be lodged till he is granted bail, while investigations are underway.
Sources disclosed that the accused had been linked to a similar offence in the past.
Later when contacted, Canacona police said the accused has been booked under Section 366 (kidnap) IPC and no offence of molestation or attempt to rape had been booked against him as yet.
The victim is reported to have given her statement in court and PSI Chavan is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Rajesh Prabhudessai.
