Police said in February 2016, the alleged accused, Tulika Katare (23) had filed a fake rape case at the Anjuna Police station against Kishore Keswani (56), a businessman from Thane.
In her complaint, the alleged accused had said that Keswani had taken her to a hotel in Anjuna under the pretext of giving her a job and raped her.
Based on the complaint of the alleged accused, Anjuna Police arrested Keshwani who was later granted bail.
Keshwani in October 2016 filed a counter complaint against Katare and 11 others for falsely implicating him in an attempt to grab his property and extort money from him.
Police sources said CCTV footage from Keswani’s house in Thane, proved that Keswani was at his residence at the time of the incident.
The businessman’s mobile phone details also suggested that he was in Mumbai at the time of the alleged rape, police sources informed.
Further, Keswani’s DNA reports came negative in the alleged rape case and even the hotel staff where the incident reportedly took place failed to identify him during an identification parade, police said.
On May 5, police had arrested Hero Kewalramani in the case and remanded him to nine days police custody.
Katare has been sent to seven days police custody.
“The kingpin, who used Katare to lodge a false complaint is absconding. Some more persons are also expected to be arrested,” Anjuna PI, Sanjay Dalvi said.
Police has registered an offence under various sections of IPC against the accused.
