A woman rider had a miraculous escape at the accident prone Aquem power house traffic junction on Thursday, bringing to the fore the inordinate delay by the authorities to streamline traffic flow at the junction.

While the bike came under wheels of a gas tanker, the woman rider escaped with minor injuries, but Davorlim villagers cried foul over the indifference and apathy of the district administration, police and Municipal officials in sprucing up the important junction over the last five years.

A local resident Anand Sawant pointed out that scores of motor accidents have taken place at the Power House junction, but the authorities appears to be in deep slumber as they have no plan to streamline the junction on scientific lines. “Even the proposal to erect speed breakers at the junction has been gathering dust at the Margao Municipal Council,” Anand said.

He pointed out that policemen make their presence felt at the junction only when VIPs pass by adding that the authorities have no agenda to take care of the motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, who have borne the brunt of the haphazard traffic junction.
