In a late-night hit-and-run incident reported on Friday, a 35-year-old woman was grievously injured while her pet dog was killed on the spot after being struck by a speeding car near the Chicalim junction.
Sources said the woman, Rani Bind, had taken her dog for a walk and was waiting near the road divider to cross when a speeding car emerged from an internal road and rammed into her. The impact killed the dog instantly and left the woman critically injured.
The car, allegedly driven by one Ullas Naik, continued moving erratically, crashing into two more cars before jumping the road divider and landing on the opposite side of the road.
The injured woman was rushed to Goa Medical College (GMC) Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Family members stated that her condition remains critical. “The injured lady is my sister-in-law. She was about to cross the road with her dog when the car hit her. The dog died on the spot and she suffered grievous injuries. The same car hit two more vehicles and crossed over the divider,” said Jatin Amonkar, a family member.
“This is a serious case of hit-and-run. The accused must be arrested and denied easy bail so that a strong message is sent that human lives matter,” Amonkar added.
Vasco police have registered a case and are carrying out further investigation.
