A woman sustained serious injuries after she was allegedly knocked down by a car in a hit-and-run accident near Gandhi Circle in Mapusa.
The Colvale Police have registered an offence against the driver and issued him a notice.
According to police, the complaint was filed on Wednesday by Subhash Shantaram Bandekar of Punola, Ucassaim.
The accident occurred around 4.30 pm on July 19 when the victim, identified as Madhuri Madhukar Bandekar, was crossing the main road near Gandhi Circle.
Police said the accused, identified as Shankar Korgaonkar of Gauravado, Calangute, was allegedly driving a car (GA-06-T-6709) from Mapusa towards Calangute in a rash and negligent manner when he hit
the pedestrian.
Madhuri Bandekar suffered serious injuries, including a fracture to her hand, in the impact.
Police further alleged that the driver fled the spot with the vehicle without informing the police or arranging medical help for the
injured woman.
Based on the complaint, the Colvale Police have registered an offence under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Sections 184, 134(a) and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. A notice has been issued to the accused driver.
