Women activists demand strict action in Josefa Pinto assault case

The brutal attack on Josefa Pinto has sparked outrage among women’s rights activists who strongly demand the immediate arrest of the assailant and ensure strict policing for netizens’ safety.

Sabina Martins of NGO Bailancho Saad pointed to the unsafe environment people are living in at present time while expressing grave concern about the attack.

“Once upon a time, we would leave our doors open and relax in our homes. Today, we live in fear. There is no safety in our own building (citing the attack on Josefa). It’s a serious law and order problem,” she lamented.

Martins, who has been actively handling various women-related issues and assisting the law enforcement agencies, insists on unearthing the attack motive.

“The investigating officers have all the resources available at their disposal. They need to ascertain the purpose of the attack on Josefa. Once it is ascertained, the department needs to chalk out preventive measures to ensure women’s safety,” she added.

The complainant’s husband Dr Gustav Pinto said they are clueless about why she was attacked because the assailant did not rob her of gold ornaments.

Co-founder of NGO Hope Foundation Andrea Pereira echoed the views, stating that agencies should be better trained and equipped to implement safety measures.
