Womens Forum holds protests against sex tourism

MARGAO
Demanding immediate action against the escort services websites promoting sex tourism in Goa, volunteers of Goa Womens Forum (GWF) held a protest near Comunidade building, Margao on Thursday, 10 August. Carrying black flags, the volunteers denounced the misuse of names of some religious places as well as educational universities by these escort services promoting sex tourism.
GWF has pointed out that business and trade bodies associated with travel and tourism must take a bold and uncompromising stand against the promotion of sex tourism in Goa or else it felt the plan to promote Goa as family destination will be devastated.
GWF has also claimed to have written to the concerned ecclesiastical authorites as well as academic authorities about the information displayed on the escort services website and requested them to take appropriate action in this matter.
Speaking to mediapersons, GWF Convenor Lorna Fernandes said these websites promote sex tourism by claiming to provide services of college girls, housewives and girls from a religious institution. She demanded that the concerned government departments such as Department of Tourism, Goa police, Department of Women and Child take the initiative and close down such activities. She wanted the concerned authorities to take suo moto action in this matter without waiting for any complaint to be lodged in this regard. She felt these departments can appoint a Nodal Officer to monitor such activities.
