Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Vice Chairman and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Tuesday assured to take up repair of internal municipal roads and hot-mixing of other major roads from November onwards.
He also said there were plans to take up work on internal municipality roads before the monsoon but the pandemic fears shelved those plans.
“There are quite a few roads that are in bad condition. We are trying to get necessary permissions and possibly float tenders by the end of October and begin hot-mixing work in November. We can also take up works on municipal roads of around Rs 2.5 crore,” D’Souza said.
The Mapusa MLA was interacting with the media while carrying out inspection of the ongoing work to replace the pipe-bridge with a concrete one along the NH-66 at Gaunsavaddo, Mapusa. Mapusa Muniicipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Ryan Braganza and highway engineers were also present at the site.
Continuing, D’Souza said the calibration of hot-mixing plants starts in November and once that happens, work of hot-mixing of Mapusa roads would become a reality.
He said the replacement of pipe-bridge with concrete one was a long pending issue which has been taken up by the highway authorities.
The total length of the concrete bridge is 57 metres while the width is 17.5 metres, which includes the service roads.
“Due to the pipe-bridge, flow of the river was restricted and as a result, Gaunsavaddo experienced flooding. The new bridge and the service roads will also ease traffic flow to Bastora and Mapusa,” D’souza said.
According to MMC Chairperson Ryan Braganza, the issue of pollution of water at Tar River came up every year as the annual Ganesh immersion took place at the site.
“With the new bridge in place people Mapusa will have clean water during the Ganesh immersion next year. There are a few sewage issues which we hope to tackle with the commencement of the sewerage treatment plant,” Braganza said.
