The Capuchin Minister General Fr Roberto Genuin, the highest authority of the Capuchin Friars in the world, has appreciated the enthusiasm of the Capuchin Friars in Goa and lauded their all-round services.
He was addressing the Provincial Chapter of the Capuchin Friars of the St Anthony's Province Goa from April 24 to April 28, which is held once every three years. The General Councillor for Asia Fr John Baptist was also present. They came from Rome and helped in discussing various themes pertaining to the Capuchin Friars in Goa.
Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao celebrated the Eucharist on the first day of the Provincial Chapter.
The Provincial Chapter is an important meeting wherein various issues are deliberated and decided. The new Provincial Minister Fr Estevao (Steve) Rodrigues and his four Councillors, Fr Gabriel Fernandes, Fr Seville Antao, Fr Kennedy Menezes and Fr Agnelo Fernandes, were elected and the major responsibility of the Capuchin Province of Goa is entrusted to them.
Besides their spiritual assistance, the Capuchins in Goa serve in various spheres such as education, boarding, social work, environment and upliftment of the underprivileged and marginalised sections of society.
The Minister General Fr Roberto Genuin appreciated the enthusiasm of the Capuchin Friars and lauded their all-round services. He encouraged them to continue serving the people and sharing with them the Franciscan charism. He reminded the Capuchins of Goa to live in their daily lives, the two latest encyclicals of Pope Francis "Laudato si and Fratelli Tutti" which are directly inspired from the writings of St Francis of Assisi.
The Minister General appreciated and blessed Goa for its scenic beauty and the strong and rich religious tradition.
