Cuncolim Union earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory against a fighting DBO Fatorda in a pre-quarterfinal match of the Cavelossim Panchayat Rolling Trophy Intervillage Football Tournament organised by Santa Cruz Club Of Cavelossim at Fr Drustan and Wellington ground Cavelossim. DBO drew first blood in the 13th minute when Charles Miranda crossed the ball to Clencio Pinto, whose first-time grounder beat onrushing keeper Harikeish Goankar. Cuncolim Union mounted a concerted effort and succeeded when a lofted cross by Wilson Fernandes from the right side was powerfully headed in by their star striker Daulat Dessai to level the score 1-1. Dessai went on to score the match-winner with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area.
Sai Avtar SC beat Sinquerim SC in tiebreaker
MARGAO: Sai Avtar SC defeated Sinquerim SC 3-2 via tiebreaker and moved into the quarterfinal of the Nerul Cup at Nerul ground on Friday. Both teams played out a goalless draw and in the resultant tiebreaker, Rohan Kambli, Kunal Virnodkar and Soma Korgaonkar scored for Sai Avtar SC while Mandar Narvekar and Prabhakar Maulinkar found the net for Sinquerim SC.
Davorlim SC move past Raia SC in 2-0 win
MARGAO: Davorlim SC defeated Raia SC 2-0 to reach the semifinals of the Davorlim Cup Intervillage Football Tournament organised by Sporting Club of Davorlim at Davorlim ground on Friday. Agnelo and Cidroy netted a goal each for Davorlim in the 28th and 55th minutes respectively to register a comfortable victory.
Navelim Veterans edge past Goa Police Veterans
MARGAO: Navelim Veterans edged past Goa Police Veterans 1-0 to book their rightful slot in the semifinals of the Third Assolna Veterans Football Cup, on Friday. Cajetan Santiago’s first-time volley in the 13th minute found Premanand Morje off his line as the ball dipped into the nets for what proved to be the only goal of the match. Goa Police could have drawn level soon thereafter, but goalkeeper Julio Quadros brought off a smart save to keep Navelim in the match. Though playing without substitutes, Goa Police Veterans continued pressing for an equaliser. Goalkeeper Julio once came to the rescue of Navelim as he denied Manoj Goltekar from the top of the area. Goa Police didn’t give up and tried their best, but somehow a goal eluded them till the end.
Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda storm into semis
MARGAO: Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda beat Ambelim SC 3-1 to enter into the quarterfinals of the Betalbatim Villagers Cup Intervillage Football Tournament at Betalbatim ground on Friday. Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda's Joel Barreto netted a brace while Shrine Clemente netted added a third. Blasco Fernandes scored the only goal for Ambelim SC. Joel Barreto of Fr Agnel was named as the man of the match.
