Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik stated that sports talent is abundant in Goa and that the government strives to encourage sport talent by providing various schemes for the sector.
He was speaking at Reis Magos after commencing the Khasdar Chasak cricket tournament in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Saligao MLA Kedar Naik and others were also present on the occasion.
"Youth nowadays have a lavish life of having more fun on social media and playing games online. Parents should understand the importance of sports for youth development and encourage their children to participate in sports while pursuing academic goals. Sports provide valuable life skills that develop character, such as patience, dedication, commitment, and goal setting," the Union Minister said.
"Discipline is essential in every field as it helps achieve greater heights in personal and professional life. The routines in sports, such as game structure, rules, and practice sessions, help the youth to develop disciplined behaviour. In sports, there is vast potential and if pursued seriously youths can bring laurels to state and nation," Naik added.
He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of youth in the tournament and stated that he plans to organise a football tournament in South Goa.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the Central and State Government has implemented various schemes and policies to boost sports talent. "The youth should avail the benefit of these schemes. The government will host National Games in October- November wherein there will be around 40 sports disciplines. There are around 24-25 sports associations in Goa. These associations should strive to develop players for various sports disciplines to participate in mega sports events."
