World No Tobacco Day observed
PONDA: The government departments from Ponda in association with ‘GOACAN’ on Monday organised an awareness programme on World No Tobacco Day, at the Sub District Hospital, Ponda.
The speakers emphasized on the need to eradicate the tobacco menace, since many people suffer due to consumption of it.
Mamlatdar Joao Fernandes, Joint Mamlatdar Abhir Hede, Adv Satish Pilgaonkar, PHC head Dr Nutan Dev, Roland Martins of GOACAN and others were present.
Dr Dev lamented that every year many die due to diseases caused by tobacco and said that though the government is trying to discourage smoking more people are getting addicted to it. Adv Pilgaonkar advocated the need of social help to eradicate the tobacco menace. Roland Martins emphasized displaying pictorial warnings on tobacco products and passing resolutions at gram sabhas against tobacco.
