Several present and former sarpanchas and panchas from Dabolim constituency have appealed to Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Dabolim, assuring him of their support and help in securing a victory.
The appeal was made during the launch of Gomati Mahila Gruha Udyog (GMGU), an initiative launched by Yadav on the occasion of his wife and Chicalim Panch member Sunita Yadav’s birthday.
Those present included Anagha Arlekar, wife of Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Rural Development Agency Chairperson Deepali Naik and former South Goa Zilla Panchayat president Anita Thorat.
The programme brought together elected representatives, community members and women from across the constituency. Several present and former sarpanchas and panch members urged Yadav to enter the electoral fray from Dabolim in the forthcoming Assembly elections and assured him of their cooperation and support.
The launch of GMGU also focused on creating opportunities for women through skill development and self-employment. The organisation plans to train women in various fields and support self-help groups in developing sustainable sources of income.
As part of the initiative, GMGU distributed sewing machines to various self-help groups to encourage women to take up tailoring and other home-based activities. Agarbatti-making and soap-making machines were also distributed to enable women and self-help groups to undertake small-scale production and generate additional income.
GMGU also announced plans to provide free driving classes to women across Dabolim constituency. The organisation will assist beneficiaries in obtaining driving licences, providing women with greater mobility, independence and employment opportunities.
The organisers said GMGU would continue working to empower women by providing practical skills, equipment and opportunities for self-employment.
