The 4th Inter-School Tiatr Competition organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) concluded on Wednesday at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, with an encouraging response from students.
The competition, which began on August 3, provided school students a platform to showcase their talent in acting, singing and stage performance while introducing them to Goa’s rich tiatr tradition.
Young musician-cum-tiatrist Queter Xavier, TAG president Anthony Barbosa and vice-president Marcos Gonsalves attended the concluding function.
Xavier urged students to work hard, develop their talents and make the most of opportunities to perform on the tiatr stage. He also praised TAG’s efforts to promote tiatr among the younger generation.
Barbosa said TAG was committed to preserving and promoting tiatr, describing it as a unique and important Goan art form. He said encouraging children to participate from a young age would help sustain the tradition while also building their confidence.
Gonsalves said the Academy conducted such competitions to keep tiatr alive among schoolchildren and connect the younger generation with Goa’s cultural heritage. He appealed to parents and teachers to encourage children to participate in tiatr and other performing arts.
Six schools participated. Rosary High School, Cujira, St Cruz, presented Doxi Konn? on August 3, followed by Fatima Convent High School, Margao, with Lhan Murti Mhan Kirti on August 4.
Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim, staged Uttaboxeo on August 5, Our Lady of Divar High School presented Pissolim on August 6, St Xavier’s High School, Velim, performed Picnic on August 7, and Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula, staged Bim Toxem Bhatt on August 12.
