Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday said he was dismayed that some opposition with vested interests had been misguiding the youth and forcing them to lie, in order to malign the government’s image just to drive the agenda of opposing development projects in the State.
Godinho was speaking during the inauguration of a two-day workshop by the BJP for its workers at Chicalim Panchayat hall in the presence of BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Sancoale ZP Member Anita Thorat, Chicalim Sarpanch Seby Pereira and others.
Responding to recent remarks by youth from Chicalim who had claimed that he had not given them time for a meeting and had insulted indirectly threatened them, Godinho said he had met the youth group.
“While they said they only wanted to submit a memorandum, I interacted with them for about an hour even though I had come for another function.”
“I was shocked after media reports emerged that I had not given them time, had insulted them and indirectly threatened them. An edited and morphed video in a futile attempt to get political mileage and malign my image was uploaded on social media,” said Godinho.
Godinho said he was later forced to upload the full video on Facebook and social
media for people to know the truth and judge for themselves.
“I wonder how some people are instigating and misguiding these young minds. If we train the youth to lie at this age. I wonder what will be their future. Responsible leaders should engage in social work and not indulge in misguiding the youth. This is how the opposition is indulging in fake propaganda against every development project undertaken by BJP,” said Godinho.
“People are opposing double-tracking and power line projects by linking it to coal as an excuse. Projects boosting the State economy and creating jobs are being stopped by the opposition on one side and on the other side, these people, some of who have already made Portuguese passports, instigate the youth by saying the government is not giving them jobs,” said Godinho.
The minister also hit out at the opposition for threatening to close down the port and bring on road the 1500-odd employees and 4,500 pensioners.
“Many such fake agitations have led to the closure of many great companies in Goa and depriving people of jobs, benefits and people’s welfare,” said Godinho.
