Youth Cong to hold morcha if Bhumiputra bill not scrapped

MAPUSA
The Congress on Sunday once again warned of holding a massive demonstration in the State if the government failed to withdraw the controversial Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill which was recently passed in the State Legislative Assembly.

“The hurriedly passed Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill has no constitutional mandate. The bill is not in the interest of Goans and therefore will not benefit Goans in any way. If the bill is not withdrawn then we will hold a massive morcha in the State,” warned Varad Mardolkar, State youth Congress President.

The youth Congress chief was addressing a Siolim youth Congress meeting in Anjuna.

Former social welfare minister Chandrakant Chodankar, Dattaram Pednekar and youth Congress leaders were present.

Youth Congress leader Vivek D’Silva said it was heartening to know that the central government was listening to the people and implementing changes as per people’s wishes.

“Two days ago the government changed the name of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award on public demand. Will the government reduce the price of petrol and diesel at the request of the people?” D’Silva asked.

Former social welfare minister Chandrakant Chodankar said the way the central government was functioning it appeared the country was run by a dictator.

Congress leader, Dattaram Pednekar said all Congress workers should join hands to strengthen the party and elect a Congress candidate from the Siolim constituency.

He said those who left the party to join BJP have done so for selfish interests and the electorate will give them a befitting reply in the 2022 assembly elections.

The Siolim youth Congress chief Roshan Chodankar informed that the party will soon elect a new youth Congress committee in Siolim.

Youth Congress leader Yesh Kochrekar and Siolim Mahila Congress chief Parvati Nagvekar also addressed the meeting which received good response from the youth.
