Youth dies in mishap at Canacona

Tragedy struck a youth from Palolem when he died in a road mishap at Gulem-Canacona late Wednesday evening, barely a week before his 21st birthday.

According to sources, Blesser Gomes was returning home from Margao on a scooter when he rammed into the rear of a stationary interstate truck on the NH66 highway near the Gulem bus stop at around 7.45 pm.

Gomes was seriously injured in the mishap and reportedly succumbed while being shifted to the South Goa District Hospital at Margao.

Sources close to the family informed that Blesser was returning from Margao where he had gone to collect his newly stitched suit for his 21st birthday celebrations planned by his family on September 11.

Sources said the truck had reportedly broken down and was stationary on the narrow section of NH66 highway in the direction of Karwar

Blesser was reportedly blinded by lights of oncoming vehicles and the stationery truck was not visible till he reached too close and his scooter rammed into the rear of the truck.
