Ban fake sports associations harming young athletes: PT Usha

Indian Olympic Association President P T Usha has urged the Sports Minister Mansukh Mandviya to ban some of the ‘fake sports associations of India’ operating in the country.

In her letter the former Olympian has said some of the fake associations are operating from states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra.

She says the fake associations are ruining the future of young children in the country by issuing them sports participation certificates which have no value and hold no merit.

“IOA wants to make you aware about the Fake Sports Federations/Associations/Organization running in India and how the future of young boys’ and girls’ sportspersons is being ruined,” her letter stated.

She says the association officials lure the players and collect money from the players.

“Officials of Fake sports organizations lure players in the name of State, National and International Competitions and collect money from them.”

She said the participation certificate issued by such fake associations have no value as there events are “not recognized by IOA and Sports Ministry, Government of India, players are being given certificates which are of No use and No benefit,” she added.

In her letter, which has been sent Secretary Sports, Government of India, Director General, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and to the Prime Minister’s office South Block, New Delhi, has mentioned 31 such fake associations.
