A house was damaged while a youth was injured in separate incidents in Sattari on Thursday.
According to reports, Krishna Gawde was injured when a branch fell outside his house at Bhom-Padeli in Bhironda while he was returning home on Wednesday evening.
Gawde fractured his leg and was moved to the Goa Medical College hospital for treatment. Gawde underwent a surgery on his leg and is stated to be in a stable condition.
On Thursday morning, a tree uprooted due to strong winds and fell in the house of Agnelo Fernandes of Christianwada-Massorde in Valpoi, causing extensive damage to his house.
Talathi Tulshidas Mandrekar along with local councillor Vinod Haldankar visited the site and inspected the damage to the house.
Haldankar estimated that the Fernandes had suffered a loss of about Rs 1.3 lakh and said a report would be submitted to the government under disaster management, so that the government provides financial assistance to the family.
Meanwhile, the PWD cleared the debris from the landslide at Chorla Ghat.
Due to heavy rains in Chorla Ghat on Wednesday, there was a minor landslide on the Goa-Belagavi highway near the Goa border. Traffic was, however, not disrupted.
When contacted, officials said all the debris had been cleared and motorists need not fear travelling on the highway. They have, however, advised motorists to move cautiously on the highway during heavy rains in the Ghat.
Meanwhile, the Chorla highway has been closed for heavy traffic till December 31.
The North Goa District Magistrate has extended the time period prohibiting entry and plying of heavy commercial vehicles from Dattawadi-Sankhali junction to end of the Goa State border on the Goa“Belagavi State Highway on the Chorla Ghat, from (PHC) Sankhali junction to end of the Goa State border on Chorla Ghat and Honda junction to end of the Goa State border on Chorla Ghat from July 1 to December 31.
