MARGAO
The Zambaulim Gulal will be held at the Shree Damodar Devasthan Temple, Zambaulim on April 6, but on a low-key manner by complying with the SOP in place.

This was announced at a joint media briefing addressed by the President of the Shree Damodar Devasthan Committee Prakash Kunde and members of the Shree Mathagramastha Hindu Sabha comprising of Ajit Hegde, Sanjeev Raiturkar and Vaikunth Fondekar here on Thursday.

Kunde told the media that the Shree Damodar Devasthan Temple, Zambaulim will hold the Gulal in a limited and restricted manner in view of the Covid pandemic. “We had earlier decided to celebrate the Gulal without much public participation. But, there were some issues that had cropped up, which has been addressed now,” he said, adding that the Gulal will now be held in a restricted manner.

Vaikunth Fondekar said the Shree Damodar Devasthan Committee and the Mathagramastha Hindu Sabha have discussed and resolved all issues between the two sides, adding that the Zambaulim Gulal will be celebrated on April 6, but on a low-key manner in view of pandemic.

He, however, said all the religious rituals will take place as usual, even as the two sides urged the people not to make a rush to the temple, but can pay a visit during the eight days of festivities.

As per the tradition, the Zambaulim Gulal sacred coconut was carried on a vehicle from the Damodar Sal to Zambaulim, marking the commencement of the Gulal festival.
