The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has called for an inspection of the alleged illegal constructions in No Development Zone (NDZ) at Candolim beach, even as the Candolim panchayat has issued a show-cause notice to the beach club involved in the irregularities.
In its complaint filed before authorities, Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) claimed that a swimming pool and several other illegal structures had been constructed on the beach disregarding coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) regulations.
Acting on the complaint, the GCZMA has recently directed the office of Collector (North) to conduct an inspection and submit a report for further action on the alleged illegal construction on the beach.
In the meanwhile, after conducting an inspection of the illegal structures on the beach, the Candolim Panchayat has issued a show-cause notice to the manager of the beach club involved in the irregularities as to why action should not be initiated against the alleged illegal construction. The owner has been given a period of 15 days to reply.
In its inspection report, the Candolim panchayat has stated that a swimming pool with deck has been constructed using laterite stones on the beachside at Vaddy in Candolim.
The panchayat further stated that the owner/manager of the beach club failed to produce any documents showing that the construction had NOC/permission from the concerned authorities.
“If you fail to file your reply within 15 days, the matter shall be placed before the panchayat body meeting to take further course of action as deemed fit under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994,” said Lourenco Rebeiro, secretary of Candolim Panchayat.
The CCF in its complaint had stated that the owner of the beach club had encroached upon the government land towards the seaside, which was against the coastal regulations.
“It’s a new construction which was carried out during the pandemic/lockdown. We hope the authorities will take strict action against the illegality,” said Premanand Diukar, President of CCF.
