542 above 45 years inoculated in Margao

Around 542 persons took a jab of the Covid vaccine in Margao on Thursday, day one after the government decided to open the vaccination for all people above 45 years of age.  

As per the government of India’s directives, the vaccination exercise will continue non-stop, even on Sundays and holidays. Though today is a holiday on account of Good Friday, there will not be a stop to the vaccination drive, sources said.  While a total of 282 persons lined up at the TB hospital atop Monte Hill to take the vaccine, 260 people took the jab at the Margao Urban Health Centre on Thursday.  

Nodal Officer for the Covid vaccination at the TB hospital, Dr Ira Almeida said that 282 persons took the Covid vaccine jab at the TB hospital. She said arrangements have been put in place for the rotation of the staff as the new directives will keep the vaccination open even on holidays and Sundays. Margao Urban Health officer, Dr Anju Kharangate informed that a lone trained and experienced vaccinator gave the Covid jab to around 262 persons, who lined up for the vaccination on Day one of the drive aimed at covering all persons above 45 years of age.
