The sports complex at Zoriwaddo in Davorlim village is badly in need of attention from the government and local authorities.

The complex, inaugurated in July 2023 by the then Sports Minister Govind Gawde, has fallen into a poor state just two years later due to lack of upkeep and maintenance.

A visit to the site shows a worrying situation. Thick grass and wild bushes cover the entire ground, clearly indicating that no authority is maintaining the area.

The facilities at the complex, including dressing rooms and toilets, are also in damaged condition. Chairs are broken in one of the rooms, and even the glass panels in the washrooms have been damaged by miscreants.

With the playground and facilities not being used properly, the complex has become a regular spot for miscreants to indulge in anti-social activities.

Locals say the poor condition of the complex is due to the failure of the government and local authorities to maintain it. They also point out that there are no government-appointed security personnel, which has given space for anti-social elements to misuse the premises.

When asked about the issue, newly elected Davorlim Sarpanch Menino Colaco said the problem stems from lack of maintenance. He said local Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar had promised to pursue the matter of appointing security guards for the complex, but nothing has happened so far.

Admitting that the complex has become a hub for anti-social activity, the Sarpanch said the Panchayat had written to the police asking them to increase patrolling in certain parts of the village, including the Zoriwaddo sports complex, to curb such behaviour.
