BJP’s Manisha Naik became the first candidate in Bardez to file her nomination from the Aldona constituency in the Zilla Panchayat elections.

Apart from being Deputy Sarpanch of Bastora, Naik is also the BJP Mahila Morcha chief from Aldona constituency.

She filed her nomination before the Returning Officer, Akshay Potekar on Monday morning.

Naik was accompanied by BJP North Goa District Vice-President Franky Carvalho along with Aldona BJP mandal president Vinay Chopdekar.

Aldona Sarpanch Francisco D’Souza, Bastora Sarpanch Ranjit Usgaonkar and panch members and karyakartas of the four villages in Aldona were also present during the filing of the nomination.

Speaking to the media, Naik said she along with the local MLA Glenn Ticlo would strive to take up development works in the constituency and focus on incomplete works.

“People of Aldona will back me and my party and I am confident I will win with a big margin in the constituency,” Naik said.

She also thanked the BJP and the senior leaders for reposing faith in her and nominating her for the ZP post.

When questioned what will be her stand on the burning Mhadei issue in the State, she said her party higher-ups will take proper decision in the matter.

BJP Vice-President Franky Carvalho described Naik as a dynamic candidate whose victory was a done thing.

The Zilla Panchayat elections in the State are scheduled for March 22.

The last day for filing nominations is on March 5. Scrutiny of application will take place on March 6 and withdrawal, if any, on March 7.
