Amid growing anger against derogatory statements allegedly made against Lord Parshuram, the mahajans and devotees of state’s lone Shri Parshuram Temple at Poinguinim submitted a memorandum to authorities and the police, besides convening a public meeting on Tuesday.
The memorandum, signed by Temple Committee Chairman Damodar Phalgaonkar, Satish Painguinkar, Uday Prabhugaonkar, Ramdas Pujari and a few others has demanded strict action against Ramkrishna Jalmi for his allegedly defamatory statements against Lord Parshuram while addressing an anti-CAA public meeting in Benaulim on Saturday.
The aggrieved devotees of the only temple dedicated to Lord Parshuram in Goa which has mahajans residing in Poinguinim, Kharegal and Loliem, held an emergency meeting on Monday and it was attended by over 80 people, including pujaris.
After vociferously condemning the statements made against Lord Parshuram, the Managing Committee of Shri Parshuram Panchaygram Devalaya at Poinguinim later submitted a memorandum to Canacona Deputy Collector Pritidas Gaonkar, Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal and Canacona Police Inspector Tukaram Chavan, seeking action against Jalmi for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community at large.
Signed by over 80 people, the Trigramasts mahajans from Poinguinim, Kharegal and Loliem, sevajans and devotees of Lord Parshuram stated in their memorandum that Lord Parshuram is worshipped by the Hindu community.
“Jalmi deliberately and maliciously outraged the religious feelings of Hindus and provoked the devotees, thereby causing large-scale aggression amongst the Hindu fraternity, an offence which comes under the ambit of Section 295(A) IPC,” stated the memorandum. The temple committee has also convened a public meeting of all villagers and devotees at Shri Parshuram Temple, Poinguinim, on Tuesday evening to protest against the derogatory statements of Jalmi.
