Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that in a renovated old Hospicio building there will be a room for audio-visual display of contributions of Goans in the field of medicine.
Government, however, rejected the demand of Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro for which he brought a private member resolution to name the South Goa District Hospital as “Padre Jose Miranda District Hospital” who has been the pioneer who struggled to construct and establish the Hospicio Hospital, Sanatorium.
Health Minister said that the two district hospitals have popular names as Azilo and Hospicio which cannot be changed now.
“Name Hospicio itself is the tribute to a great personality like Padre Miranda,” said Health Minister.
We will have an audio-visual display room in which tribute will be paid to everybody including Padre Miranda, said Health Minister Rane.
While Faleiro was pressing for his demand, Chief Minister also intervened in the debate. He said when Padre Miranda himself has not given his name to the hospital how we can give his name. His trust was named as Hospicio trust.
Faleiro while speaking on the contribution of the Padre Miranda’s contribution to the medical field said that Miranda was visionary missionary who started a hospital 152 years back seeking a public contribution in 1867 and expanded it in many villages of Goa. MLA Digambar Kamat also supported Faleiro’s demand.
Meanwhile on other private member resolution, Chief Minister assured the House that government will try to add more information on the great nationalist leader during Portuguese period Dr Francis Luis Gomes in the twelfth standard history textbook informing the House that there are some more information about this great personality in the textbook.
Laadli Laxmi beneficiaries to be cleared soon: Vishwajit
MAPUSA : Minister for Women and Child Development Vishwajit Rane on Friday assured the Goa Legislative Assembly of clearing the backlog of Laadli Laxmi and Griha Adhar schemes by making payment to the beneficiaries within a specific period.
Stating that various applications pending for sanction was not due to lack of funds, Rane said the government was in the process of printing more forms and would soon release funds of those which were pending.
He said the government after conducting a survey rejected around 15,000 to 20,000 bogus applicants and have now put a cap for both the schemes.
Raising the issue during the Question Hour, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes said the Laadli Laxmi and Griha Adhar were the best social welfare schemes started by the government.
“Most women make it a point to come to the office to inquire about the schemes and expect the government to deliver,” Fernandes said.
Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo appealed whether some consideration could be done if there was delay in applying for the schemes.
“We could consider an interval of 30 days for those who failed to apply on time. But not more than that as the whole structure will be affected,” Rane said.
