MARGAO

The Cuncolim Municipal Council on Friday has resolved to demand an Urban Health Centre in the jurisdiction of Cuncolim Municipal area for the benefit of the people.

The council has also resolved to reject the Goa Coastal Management plan on

grounds that the plan prepared by the agency is incomplete and not showing the ground realities. At a meeting chaired by Municipal Chairperson Anjela

Luis Paiginkar, councillors deliberated on the proposed Urban Health Centre for the town. The councillors pointed out that space for the proposed health centre should not be a problem as the centre can be very well housed in the under-utilized recreational centre.

The meeting also deliberated on the proposal to impose a blanket ban on new recruitment of office staff in the Cuncolim Municipal Council. Barring manual

labourers, the council has resolved not to go in for new recruitment of staff.

A resolution for underground electric cabling in the Cuncolim Municipal area was also adopted at the meeting. Councillors pointed out that if the government can lay underground cabling in the industrial estate, the same facility should be extended to the municipal area as well.

Vice-Chairperson Videsh Desai later told the media that the Cuncolim Municipality intends to inaugurate the commercial complex and also lay the

foundation stone for the administrative complex near the KTC bus stand on a same day later this year. He said though the council is in receipt of a financial approval for the administrative complex, the council has asked

for enhances of the funds from Rs 12 crore to Rs 23 crore for meeting the requirements of the complex.

The meeting also resolved to form a Cuncolim Municipal Trust of past and present councillors.
